Mustangs B ball success is only Tubbs away

Jimmy Tubbs is all about DEFENSE, and plenty of "mano y mano", "40 minutes of hell" or what ever you care to call it style of defense. Reference: earlier post under Falcon's "Evidence for Tubbs".

Players want to play for Tubbs, he can coach and is a WINNER. And yes, there is a real concern, from this vantage point, that recruitng the Dallas player will suffer mightily should Tubbs not be hired. [/b]

Can we please limit the "Jimmy Tubbs is on my Buddy List through AOL Instant Messenger" posts to a single thread?

He is being considered. He is being given a fair shake. Give it a rest.

Dooby...you have "weighed in" on the subject since I have...right?

Plus, many of us are very passionate about this hire and know the workings of highs school basketball, AAU and what it takes to succeed.

I don't believe I have endorsed anyone; only commented on a name once it is first brought up. I don't think I have said a negative word on anyone. I may have expressed one concern about Tubbs, but that is it. Frankly, I will be happy with whoever is picked. I rather like the pool of candidates. I just hope some people don't slit their wrists if Tubbs doesn't get the job.

But if someone has something new to add regarding Tubbs, I am more than willing to listen. It is just that most pro-Tubbs posts seem to be from people on his Christmas Card list.

Whats the real problem here? If the subject of a post has "Tubbs" in it, is it really that hard not to read it? Don't read it or respond to it if it doesn't interest you. I want Tubbs to be the basketball coach here. He doesn't know me from Adam. He is not my buddy, but he is the right person for this job. Until someone is hired, all comments about the candidates are fair game here. I sure hope SMU doesn't make a mistake on this one.

Hey Dooby, as an aside, I'd like it if you'd stop tormenting us with that Kathy Bates in the hottub avitar. :o That thing keeps showing up like a bad nightmare that won't go away. If I can deal with that, surely you can put up with a little Jimmy Tubbs redundancy. Thats all it is. The points are valid and the risks are real.

Oh come on guys, we all know who Jimmy's gay lovers are on this board. Just kidding guys. We all know that Jimmy's not gay, not that there's anything wrong with that.

I have to agree with dooby. I am tired of all this Tubbs propaganda. I am sure he is great, but I also think we have some other really talented coaches up for this job, and I would love to hear more about them. I think tubbs is great but I don't like that he was an asst. for dement for so long. Coaches learn from the coaches they work under. I would like someone fresh and new who has been an asst. to a successful coach. But if we still get Tubbs I will be excited and support the team and coach. GO PONIES!

p.s. I hate tcu.....and it is not a feeling, it is a way of life.

Ponydawg, do you realize Tubbs is working under Kelvin Sampson at Oklahoma? Tubbs is not employed by SMU right now and he hasn't worked for Dement since 3 years ago.

We HAVE to hire him now, best candidate or not. We wont' be able to recruit Dallas for 10 years if we dont' hire him.

Every HS coach within 100 mile radius of Dallas will steer every recruit they have away from SMU. We're finished. If Tubbs is not hired we'll have to increase our recruiting budget b/c no one in the metro area will return our phone calls.

I think this point has been made here before, but Tubbs was at SMU for 12 years, coaching and recruiting his hind end off, and based on our record those 12 years as a whole, I'm not sure what makes people think he's going to be our savior.

He may in fact be the best choice for this job, I don't know. But not necessarily our only choice, so I see no need to jump on the Tubbs bandwagon at this juncture. We need the best coach, period. The recommendation of the DISD coaches should obviously be taken into account. But it's only one factor out of many. Let's not get carried away.

The local coaches are pulling for their friend (Tubbs) - but if we decide someone else is better they will get over it in about 5 minutes - this is a business, and they would all like to see their players do well at the next level, and they probably would not mind moving up to the next level also, so they will be fine and so will we. If Tubbs is the best guy - great - if not, so be it.

How would the DISD coaches split their support (in recruits, of course) if Tubbs and Bishop both were finalists for the job?
