COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M men's basketball team addressed some rebounding needs with Wednesday's signing of junior college forward Edjuan Green. Green, a 6-7, 230-pounder from the Houston area, averaged 19.3 points and 14.7 rebounds for Temple Junior College to earn first-team all-region honors.
The second-leading rebounder in NJCAA Division I, Green joins a squad losing its top two rebounders. Green said teams recruiting him included Georgia, Oregon, Nebraska and Colorado.
Green is the first signee for new coach Billy Gillispie. When Gillispie arrived last month, the Aggies had no more scholarships to give under NCAA rules. But the A&M compliance office had already started the process of applying for a waiver because of a former player who suffered a career-ending injury, Gillispie said, and the NCAA approved it.
