Miller Named All-ACC, Edwards Selected To ACC All-Defensive Team

Story Links CHARLOTTE, N.C. (ACC/SMU) – Junior guard Boopie Miller was named All-ACC Third Team and junior guard B.J. Edwards was selected to the ACC All-Defensive Team, the ACC announced during ACC PM on Monday. Edwards also received votes for Most Improved Player and senior guard Kario Oquendo received votes for Sixth Man of the Year.

Miller is averaging 13.4 points (25th ACC), 5.7 assists (4th ACC, 31st NCAA), 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals (8th ACC) with a 2.58 assist-to-turnover ratio (2nd ACC, 33rd NCAA). He is shooting 35.6% on threes and 80.9% on free throws while recording a pair of points-assists double-doubles. He has a pair of game-winning shots for the Mustangs, hitting a right-wing 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds left at Virginia for 54-52 win on Jan. 15 and a 10-foot running jumper with 2.1 seconds left for 79-77 win versus Cal Baptist in the Acrisure Holiday Invitational semifinal on Nov. 26. Miller was named MVP of the Acrisure Holiday Invitational after the Mustangs defeated Washington State 77-60 in the title game.

Edwards has started all 31 games for the Mustangs. He is averaging 10.0 points (52nd ACC), 4.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists (11th ACC) and 2.3 steals (2nd ACC, 19th NCAA) with a 1.93 assist-to-turnover ratio (11th ACC).

Oquendo has played all 31 games, coming off the bench in 21 contests. He is averaging 10.9 points (47th ACC), 3.2 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.9 steals on the season while shooting 40.5% on threes.

In the first season under Head Coach Andy Enfield, the Mustangs finished the regular season at 22-9 and 13-7 in ACC games to tie for fourth. The 13 league wins tied for third-most in program history. The seven road wins in league play tied for the second-most league road wins in SMU history.

SMU is averaging 81.1 points (3rd ACC, 29th NCAA) while shooting 48.2% (2nd ACC, 28th NCAA) overall and 38.0% on threes (2nd ACC, 20th NCAA). The Mustangs are leading the ACC in steals (8.0, 59th NCAA). SMU is second in the ACC in total rebounds (38.7, 29th NCAA), fastbreak points (13.2, 37th NCAA), second in the ACC in rebound margin (+5.6, 29th NCAA), second in offensive rebounds (12.7, 42nd NCAA), second in assists (15.8, 51st NCAA), second in bench points (25.2, 58th NCAA), fourth in scoring margin (+8.9, 42nd NCAA) and third in field-goal defense (41.3%, 48th NCAA).

The No. 6 seeded Mustangs will face No. 11 seeded Florida State (17-14, 8-12 ACC) or No. 14 seeded Syracuse (17-14, 8-12 ACC) in the second round of the T. Rowe Price ACC Tournament on Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. CT.
