Now let's grab a back-up point guard.

Ideally a combo guard who can defend and shoot better than 40% from three

If he's quick and an exceptional ball handler/distributor, I don't know if it's important that he can make a layup. Whenever Miller has been hurt, the offense gets stagnant right away. Edwards played hard last night, and was good in the second half, but he has to be an alternative-at-best, as far as running the point.

I was a little surprised to see another PF addition given the guys we have on the current roster and the guys coming in this FR class but this suggests to me that someone has already decided to transfer out. All I know is that we are going to lose a lot of backcourt scoring with Harris and Oquendo exhausting their eligibility and I have to believe replacing them will be a high priority before finalizing next year's roster. In today's college athletics environment, you have to expect roster churn every year and we know we need to upgrade the talent level if this program is going to compete at the top of the ACC

So true CP. If anything, the performance of GT, UNC, Louisville and Clemson prove we (as a conference) need to upgrade the talent in the ACC across the board.

Could SMU have done worse?

I hope we have some better bigs next year. The current frontcourt players we have are not of the same caliber as Semi, Ben Moore, Markus Kennedy and Jordan Tolbert. If we had guys like that on this roster, this year would have been very different.

Highly touted bigs are on the way but we don't know whether any of them will be effective against ACC competition

“Highly-touted” Is all we can ask for. If we miss on a few of them, we miss. This coaching staff has a track record of developing players (from their time at USC).

I’ve said this before, but this team was WAY better than I thought it would be. I need to keep that in mind.

That's the result of Coach E getting hired in April and piecing together a roster. Considering the late start he and his staff had, they did a hell of a job assembling a team that was far beyond last year's version.

Now we lose Ambrose-Hylton, Oquendo, Harris, Görener and Cross ... at least.

We have Nana Owusu-Anane coming in as a transfer and two heralded bigs coming next year in Jaden Toombs and Nigel Walls, and by all accounts they're really talented, but they're young and will need to grow into their frames.

I assume the 5 guys above aren't the only ones who move on. I want at least one more top point guard to go along with Miller, not just fill in if he gets hurt, and another big in the Owusu-Anane mold: a guy who can do the dirty work, doesn't care about scoring but will defend and fight an entire team for rebounds.

Portal officially opens today. Right now we have 5 outgoing and 5 incoming commits. Expect this next month to be active

Lots of guys jumping in Day One, especially with all the coaching changes. Even my D-II head coach neighbor (where they don't pay NIL) says this time of year has become a lot of talking to and hearing from players' agents. I see Isaac McKneely of Virginia has thrown his name into the hat:

Brown's Nana Owusu-Anane is the only incoming commit 247 has listed as of 10:10 a.m. EDT. He was a 3 star recruit, now a 4 star transfer.

No outgoing transfers listed.

I couldn't find on 247 a list of players who have entered the portal.
