Jaron Pierre commits to SMU, to explore NBA draft

Jacksonville State guard Jaron Pierre Jr., who was named Conference USA Player of the Year after averaging 21.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game, has committed to SMU with one year of eligibility, according to a report by Thomas Ashworth of al.com.
The 6-5, 190-pound Pierre, a target of several of the nation's top teams, including Auburn, Kentucky, Baylor, LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss and Arkansas, also plans to go through the NBA draft process. He shot 42.4% from the floor and 38.2% from 3-point range this season. He scored 30 or more points in six games last season.
Jacksonville State is his third school. He started his college career at Southern Miss from 2020-22 before spending the next two seasons at Wichita State (he redshirted 2023-24).
