I've been keeping up with it. Pettis is going to be extradited back to Fresno. Ray Lopes issued a statement today to respond to the Fresno Bee article you linked, he says he cooperated in every way, etc. It looks like Pettis was robbing someone who was there to buy or sell drugs, perhaps thinking that someone like that couldnt go to the police, and they couldnt come after him because he was leaving town immediately after. The girl who got killed was the girlfriend of the guy he was trying to rob, he may not have expected her to be in the car.

Thats the way it sounds, from what I've read. Maybe we'll know more when they take him back to Fresno.
