Local Talent And Member Of FC Dallas Academy Cano Joins SMU For 2014 Season

DALLAS (SMU) – Head men’s soccer coach Tim McClements has announced the addition of Dallas native Jordan Cano to the program for the 2014 season.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jordan to the SMU Soccer Family,†McClements said. “He possesses all of the qualities of an elite central defender - tall, athletic, technically sound and tactically disciplined.â€
One of the top defenders of his 2014 high school graduation class, Cano is rated as the No. 14 recruit and fourth-best defender in the country by collegesoccernews.com, and is a four-star prospect and the No. 1 defender in Texas according to topdrawersoccer.com. Cano has participated in numerous US Soccer U17 National Team camps and has been invited to the US Soccer U17 National Team residency program in Bradenton, Florida, twice, but has elected to stay with his club team in Dallas.
As the captain of his FC Dallas U18 Academy team, Cano has been a starting central defender for the past three seasons and has also been called up to train and play with the FC Dallas Reserves. A member of former SMU great Luchi Gonzalez’s squad, Cano has helped lead his team to the US Soccer Development Academy National Semifinals.
“He has played at an extremely high level with FC Dallas,†McClements added. “Through our strong ties with FC Dallas, we know we have a top defender who can compete straight away at SMU."
Cano joins eight other incoming student-athletes for 2014. The Mustangs begin exhibition play against Houston Baptist on Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. CT at Westcott Field, while regular season action begins on Aug. 29 at Michigan State.
