As expected based on the scores, Auburn swept the MOP honors today.

SMU recap of the Auburn event:

Head Coach Carol Gwin:
“Auburn is such a strong team that today served as a great learning experience for us. They have the potential to beat anyone in the country. We did well in some areas today but we know we need to improve. I was particularly happy with our western riders, as they put forth a strong performance. We knew how tough the weekend was going to be, so we just have to focus for tomorrow against South Carolina.”

“It was a good win. This was a measuring stick after coming back from the break to see where we are,” head coach Greg Williams said. “For the most part, we just made some tweaks. There are some things we need to elevate. SMU is such a good Hunt Seat team. They are so strong, and our girls turned it on. Those were such huge scores and our rides were matching it. I think they knew coming in that SMU was a really strong Hunt Seat team, and they rose up to that. They rode with the intent to win.”

A rough start for the Mustangs today, as South Carolina wins reining 4-0. Jaclyn White was able to tie her ride.

Not a bad performance as the scores were very close across the board, but that's the margin in collegiate equestrian.

Fences is next.

Go Mustangs!

South Carolina wins fences 3-1. Emma Roberts had the point for SMU. Sylvia de Toledo was even in her ride.

Overall, disappointing scores for a strong fences team like SMU.

The Gamecocks are up 7-1 overall after two events.

Horsemanship is next.

Go Mustangs!

South Carolina finishes the day with a 4-0 win on the flat. Schaefer Raposa was able to tie her ride.

Final score: South Carolina 13, SMU 2

Definitely a rough weekend on the road against two other top teams for the Mustangs.

SMU is at TCU Friday.
