M-Soccer: 2015 Signing Day

Postby DanFreibergerForHeisman » Fri Feb 06, 2015 8:47 pm

As requested, here are the confirmed NLIs for men's soccer:

Caleb Smith - 5'9" MF/D - Arlington, TX (Solar Chelsea/Martin HS)
Andrew Ramsey - 5'11" D - Klein, TX (Texans Houston/Collins HS)
Philip Ponder - 5'10" D - Frisco, TX (FC Dallas/Lone Star HS)
Kevin Meinecke - 5'10" MF/D - Cumming, IA (Shattuck St. Mary's/Shattuck St. Mary's HS)
Bryan Missana - 6'0" MF - Tampa, FL (Shattuck St. Mary's/Shattuck St. Mary's HS)
Christian Boorom - 5'10" MF - Fort Lauderdale, FL (IMG Academy/IMG Academy HS)

There are also some others reported as committed but there is no confirmation of their signing yet.

By all accounts, this is an absolutely stellar group of players. Congratulations to Coach Hudson for signing a great class.

After starting six or seven freshman regularly this season, you know each of these players will have every opportunity to contribute this fall.

Go Mustangs!

Top Drawer Soccer's number 7 ranked class for 2015 as of February 6. Good job by the coaching staff. Caleb Smith is the highlight with national U20 experience.

Some real talent there. My only concern is that they look pretty small in size. To advance in the NCAA tourney, you need some guys to keep other teams away from our goalie.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Caleb Smith is the number 12 rated player in the US. He flipped from UCLA to SMU at the last moment. Apparently a big surprise.

A legitimate concern a few years ago, perhaps, but this is not the small team SMU has run out there sometimes in years past. GK Michael Nelson is 6-4; F Idi Camara, MF Mauro Cichero and D Jacob Speed are 6-3 D; Michael King is 6-2 and coming back off a knee injury. In addition, there are several players who aren't quite 6 feet tall but are physically strong. This is not one of those teams that has superior technical skill but gets physically pushed around, and from all appearances, the skill level appears headed up.
