Tara-Lynn Nicholas Sets School And Meet Record, Posts A Cut

Feb. 20, 2015

GREENSBORO, N.C. (SMU) – Tara-Lynn Nicholas posted a school and meet record in the 100-yard breaststroke to help lead the SMU women’s swimming and diving team on night three of the American Athletic Conference Championship. Her time of 59.12 also qualifies as an NCAA ‘A’ cut.

In addition to Nicholas’ top spot in the 100-breast, senior Rachel Nicol posted a personal-best 59.94 for runner-up honors, while classmate Erica Donadon touched the wall in 1:02.13 for fifth-place points.

The Mustangs are currently first in the team standings with a team score of 550. Connecticut is second with 428, East Carolina third at 391.5, Tulane fourth with 331.5, Houston fifth at 314 and Cincinnati rounds out the group with 295.

SMU set a second meet record on night three, this time in the 100-yard backstroke, as senior Isabella Arcila posted a 52.90 for the win. The Mustangs also had three more post scores in the Championship Final with Anna Volchkov placing third (54.81), junior Tiffany Sudarma fifth (55.76) and senior Eleonor Lindborg rounding out the group in eighth (56.50).

To start the night, sophomore Kirsty McLauchlan outpaced all other competitors in the 400-yard individual medley posting a personal-best time of 4:14.82. Junior Elizabeth Krane also scored for the Mustangs with a sixth-place finish in the Consolation Final.

Sophomore Marne Erasmus picked up maximum points in the 100-yard butterfly and was one of three Mustangs to score in the Championship Final. Erasmus finished in 52.28, while Sudarma was third (54.71) and senior Nicole Parmenter was seventh (56.00).

Adding to the Ponies’ team score in the 200-yard freestyle were senior Nathalie Lindborg (3rd, 1:47.10), sophomore Ursa Bezan (5th, 1:48.42) and freshman Adrienn Santa (6th, 1:49.42.).

In diving action, freshman Madeline Wainman competed in the Championship Final of the three-meter dive scoring a 264.00 good for eighth-place points.

The final event of the night, the 400-yard medley relay, saw the Mustang squad of Volchkov, Donadon, Sudarma and Santa place first in a time of 3:40.18.

SMU also posted a 1:29.79 in a 200-yard freestyle relay time trial, which is good enough to give Nathalie Lindborg, Arcila, Nicholas and Erasmus an NCAA ‘B’ cut.

SMU is back in action on Saturday for the final day of The American Championship. Follow all the action HERE.
