PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AMERICAN/SMU) – Following a first-place finish and 12 event wins at the American Athletic Conference Championship, the Mustangs earned 24 American Athletic Conference honors, conference officials announced on Thursday.

In relay action, the Mustangs won four of five and finished second in the fifth to earn the honor in each event. Following an impressive performance, SMU has one qualifying standard in the 200-yard medley relay and a pair in the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay.

Sophomore Tara-Lynn Nicholas posted an NCAA ‘A’ cut and school standard for SMU with a 59.12 and a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke and also earned the honor in the 200-yard event. Fellow breaststroker Rachel Nicol switched places with Nicholas winning the 200-yard event and placing second in the 100 to earn all-league accolades. Sophomore Kirsty McLauchlan, who completed the sweep of the podium in the 200, was also honored in the event.

Nicol earned her third individual honor as she was the only swimmer to break 2:00.00 in the 200-yard individual medley for the win. McLauchlan was also honored in the event following a runner-up finish. In the 400-distance, McLauchlan was crowned conference champion.

Senior Isabella Arcila posted three event wins including a school record en route to multiple honors. Arcila won the 50-yard freestyle and swept the backstroke events. Classmate Nathalie Lindborg was second in the 50-free, while junior Anna Volchkov was a selection in both the 100- and 200-back. Lindborg’s second and third honor came in the 100- and 200-yard freestyles.

In the 100-yard butterfly, both sophomore Marne Erasmus and junior Tiffany Sudarma earned the accolade with second and third place finishes, respectively.

In diving action, freshman Madeline Wainman placed second in the platform dive on the final day of competition for her first all-conference selection.

Select Mustangs will travel to the NCAA Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina, March 19-21.
