Women’s Tennis Opens Fall Season At Oklahoma
SMU Will Be One Of 10 Schools Competing At OU This Weekend

Sept. 24, 2015

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women’s tennis team will send four competitors to Norman, Okla. to compete at the OU Fall Invite at the Headington Family Tennis Center Friday through Sunday.

Seniors Yana Erkeeva and Vaszilisza Bulgakova will pair up to face Kamilla Galieva and Alexis Thoma from the University of North Texas in the first round of the Red doubles draw at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Juniors Macie Elliott and Mary Wright will be the other SMU doubles pair and will take on Oklahoma’s Emma Devine and Simran Sethi in the Crimson doubles draw, also at 9:00 a.m. on Friday.

Last season, Elliott and Wright went undefeated in their five doubles matches as a pair while Bulgakova went 25-11 over the course of the 2015 season with two different partners and Erkeeva went 10-14 with three different partners.

All four women will compete in singles as well with Erkeeva facing OU’s Sethi at 11:00 a.m. in the Boomer draw, Bulgakova taking on Alex Valenstein from Texas Tech at 12:30 p.m. in the Sooner draw, Wright going up against Agustina Valenzuela from North Texas at 1:00 p.m. in the Stoops draw and Elliott facing Whitley Quan from Wichita State at 2:30 p.m. Switzer draw. The Boomer, Sooner and Stoops draw are all tournament style formats with the Switzer draw being round robin play.

Joining the Mustangs at the OU Invite includes the field of Texas Tech, TCU, Oklahoma State, North Texas, Wichita State, Kansas, Kansas State, Tulsa and host Oklahoma. Second round play in the doubles draws will be at 9:45 a.m., the next two rounds of singles play will resume on Saturday with the final rounds of singles and last two rounds of doubles being played on Sunday.
