PonyFans.com VIDEO: Hudson, Lee after 2-1 win over ORUFrom SMUMustangs.com: Mustangs Defeat Oral Roberts, 2-1 Lee, Cuello Score Goals In Victory Sept. 29, 2015 DALLAS (SMU) – Goals from Brenden Lee and Emil Cuello propelled the SMU men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Oral Roberts on Tuesday evening at Westcott Field. The Mustangs (6-2-2) have now won four of their last five matches, and sit at 5-1-1 in matches at the Hilltop. With the loss, Oral Roberts fell to 3-4-1 on the season. Redshirt junior Brenden Lee scored his third goal of the season in the 7th minute to put the Mustangs on the board early in the match. Following a 40-yard long ball pass from Jordan Cano, Lee took one touch and drilled the ball into the lower right hand corner of the goal from 18 yards out. “I think I’ve always been a player that can change a game and who has the ability to score goals,†Lee said. “I’ve gotten my confidence and know my role on the team and I’m able to step up to that role.†Cuello, a freshman from Orem, Utah, scored what proved to be the match winner in the 38th minute after he collected a pass from Jacob Speed and fired the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal. The goal was Cuello’s third of the season and the assist was Speed’s second. Oral Roberts scored the equalizer in the 24th minute after Alexis Derennes received a cross from Isaac Franley and punched it in past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Michael Nelson. “Our performance tonight was enough to get the result,†Head Coach Kevin Hudson said. “Coming off the game at Tulsa, I was worried about us being a bit sluggish and slightly overlooking Oral Roberts, who has a good group this year. I don’t think we played really well but we won the game and that’s the most important thing.†The Mustangs had an 18-6 edge in shots in the match, including seven chances on goal. Cuello registered a team-leading four shots while Bryce Clark and Mauro Cichero added three of their own. Nelson was only forced to make three saves in the net for the Ponies. Up next, SMU hosts UCF in AAC action on Friday at Westcott Field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT with live video and stats available at SMUMustangs.com.
