Men's tennis falls to fourth-seeded Kentucky in Saturday night thriller

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men's tennis team fell 4-2 to fourth-seeded Kentucky on day two of the ITA National Indoor Championship at Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on Saturday.

The Mustangs fell short of grabbing the win in a match that saw three lead changes.

SMU dropped the doubles point in a close match that saw two deuces. While Georgi Georgiev and Trevor Svajda managed to take the lead by winning the first two singles points, the eighth-ranked Kentucky prevailed by following it up with three singles wins.

Georgiev is undefeated in his last four singles matches, winning three matches while having one unfinished match. SMU is now 7-5 at the start of the spring season.

How it Went
SMU's pair of Maks Silagy and Georgiev were leading their doubles match (6-5), but the Mustangs dropped the doubles point. Mustang pairs of Svajda/Louis Cloud and Vikas Deo/Xavier Calvelo both fell on deuces (7-5).

Georgiev won the first singles point of the night to even the score for the Mustangs by defeating No. 95 Charlelie Cosnet (6-0, 6-3). He improved to 8-1 in singles play this season.

Svajda takes the lead for the Mustangs by winning 6-4, 6-4 over Antoine Ghibaudo. But Kentucky evened the score again short after with a win from Matt Rankin (7-5, 6-3).

The Wildcats took back the lead as Jerry Barton fell 6-3, 4-6, 4-6 to No. 62 Jaden Weekes and proceeded to clinch the match with wins from No. 68 Jack Loutit.
