SMU falls on the road at California

BERKELEY, Calif. (SMU) – SMU Women's Tennis fell to California 6-1 in the first-ever matchup between the two programs in Berkeley Sunday afternoon.

California got the best of SMU in doubles action, starting with Jessica Alsola and Mao Mushika earning a 6-1 win over No. 45 Sophie Llewellyn and Ellie Pittman on court one. Shortly after, the Golden Bears clinched the doubles point with a win on court three as Greta Greco Lucchina and Lan Mi teamed up to defeat No. 64 Kayla Schefke and Arianna Stavropoulos 6-3.

The Golden Bears extended their leads to start singles with wins on court six and then court five. Naomi Xu got a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Millie Skelton, and then No. 106 Berta Passola Folch defeated Kayla Schefke 6-4, 6-3 to extend California's lead to 3-0. No. 86 Lan Mi clinched the match for the Golden Bears on court three with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ellie Pittman.

SMU and California proceed to play out the final three matches where, Jessica Alsola took down No. 120 Drew Morris 6-4, 4-6, and 10-4 in a super tiebreaker format. No. 40 Mao Mushika (CAL) defeated No. 124 Sophie Llewellyn 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. In the final match of the day, Arianna Stavropoulos notched her second-ranked win of the season and earned SMU it's lone win with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 over No. 110 Greta Greco Lucchina (CAL).
