NCAA Men's TournamentThe tournament brackets have been released, with Tulsa being the only Conf. USA team to make the dance. By comparison, the ACC had 6 teams and the Big East and Big Ten had 5 teams each. Not only did SMU finish way out of the money, but its conferance was one of the weaker soccer conferences in Div. 1. You can make all the excuses you want , but the fact remains that our soccer recruiting classes over the past 4 years have been top 15 every year and in most cases top 10. There is really no excuse for the result we had this year. We made the dance every year since 1999 and probably consecutive years before that, I cannot remember. What make its it even harder to accept is the fact that the final four is being hosted by SMU this year.
No excuses offered here. But as far as this being a weak conference, that we are not. Kentucky went to Indiana and took them to a 1-1 draw. Tulsa also played well non conference. BTW we didn't do so bad ourselves non conference wise. We beat Virginia, George Mason and Oakland. We drew against Cal. All of them are in. The problem is that we were horrible during conference play. Also we were one hell of a road team this year all things considered 7-2-1 on the road vs 3-5-1 at home. I really think Kentucky should have gotten in and from looking at the records of San Francisco, UNC Greensboro and Boston College, we should have gotten in, poor conference showing not withstanding. College Soccer News even thinks Tulsa and C-USA got disrepected by not getting a higher seed.
Creighton's pretty good, but let's not equate them with Wake Forest or someone. Tulsa got jobbed by not getting a first-round bye (although they should drill UMKC), and I can't believe Kentucky didn't get in - that's a good team that played well down the stretch.
It's not an excuse to point out that talented players are of little value when they're not on the field. We'll be back in the NCAA tournament next year .... as we should be.
Kudos - that's impressive. PonyFans.com ... is really the premier place for Mustang talk on the Web.
