Lesniak Advances To Quarterfinals At All-American Championsh

LOS ANGELES (SMU) --- No. 39 Marta Lesniak has won her first three matches and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Riviera Women's All-American Tennis Championships in Los Angeles. Lesniak and Aleksandra Malyarchikova, ranked No. 13 and seeded third in doubles, have won two straight matches to advance to the consolation semifinals.


Lesniak defeated three players ranked in the top 64 nationally. She topped No. 50 Irene Rehberger of South Florida 6-3, 6-2 in her third round matchup to reach the quarterfinals. She faces Lauren Embree of Florida in her next match. Lesniak is the second-highest seed remaining in the draw. The only higher seed is No. 29 and sixth seed Natasha Marks of Arizona. Lesniak won her first two matches over No. 64 Monica Arguello of Furman 6-2, 6-1 and No. 59 Anouk Tigu of Arkansas 7-5, 6-3.


Lesniak and Malyarchikova have rallied after an opening round loss. The 13th-ranked and third-seeded duo topped Joanna Dobrawalska/Nadine Fahoum of Old Dominion 8-3 in the quarterfinal of the consolation draw. Lesniak and Malyarchikova face No. 32 Whitney Taney and Rika Tatsuno of Michigan in the consolation semifinal. Earlier, the tandem knocked off No. 41 Michelle Murphy and Sofia Novak of UC Santa Barbara 8-4 in its first consolation bracket match following an opening round 8-6 loss to Lauren Embree and Allie Will of Florida.
