SMU Men's Soccer Announces Spring Schedule
Includes Two Matchups Against MLS Foes

Feb. 8, 2010

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU Men's Soccer announced their 2010 spring schedule today, one that includes two games against Major League Soccer teams and includes a clash with 2009 College Cup Semifinalist North Carolina. Games against Midwestern State and Houston Baptist round out the spring schedule.

"We are excited about the spring schedule and the challenges that each team will present," said SMU Head Coach Tim McClements. "We feel that playing two MLS teams, an ACC power that played in this year's College Cup, as well as two in-state rivals, will be a great springboard for us as we look towards our future success in the fall of 2010."

SMU begins the spring schedule on February 13 at 11:00 a.m. with a matchup against Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer at the Carl Lewis Track and Field Complex in Houston. The two-time champion Dynamo finished 2009 with a 13-8-9 record, and fell in the Western Conference Finals to the Los Angeles Galaxy. This will be SMU's first exhibition matchup with the Dynamo.

SMU takes on another MLS team preparing for the 2010 season on February 16 at 9:30 a.m., as they face FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. Dallas finished 11-13-6 in 2009, but made a push for the MLS Cup Playoffs with a 4-1-0 finish. SMU did not play FC Dallas in the 2009 spring season, but earned a 0-0 draw in the 2008 spring campaign.

The Mustangs host Houston Baptist on February 27 at 7 p.m., their first game of the spring season at Westcott Field. The HBU Huskies went 6-11 in 2009, and split a pair of games at the SMU Classic.

SMU returns to Houston on March 20 as they will take on 2009 NCAA College Cup participant North Carolina. The Tar Heels finished the 2009 season 16-2-3, and lost to Akron on penalty kicks in the College Cup Semifinal.

SMU wraps up the spring season on April 23, as they host Midwestern State at Westcott Field. Midwestern State went 13-2-3 in 2009, playing in the Division II Lone Star Conference.
