SMU Signee Ruengmateekhun Wins Golfing FORE! A Cure Tournament
Prep Star Will Enroll This Fall

March 10, 2010

ALLEN, Texas (SMU) - SMU signee Amy Ruengmateekhun shot an 11-under 97 over 27 holes to win the Golfing FORE! A Cure Tournament on Tuesday, March 9, at Twin Creeks Golf Course.

Ruengmateekhun was one of over 100 high school golfers competing with the hope of raising awareness of breast cancer. The event, hosted by Frisco Centennial and Frisco High School, is in its third year. Portions of the entry fees for teams and players were donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Ruengmateekhun signed a National Letter of Intent with SMU in November and will enroll this fall. She won the TAPPS State Championship in 2007 & 2008 and was runner-up in 2009. She is also a two-time Dallas Morning News Player of the Year.

Ruengmateekhun, from Garland, Texas, is the 29th-ranked prep senior in the nation and is ranked fourth in the Texas among seniors according to GolfWeek. She won the American Junior Golf Association's Alabama event and has finished in the top-five at AGJA events eight times. She has also been a sectional qualifier for the U.S. Women's Open in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

the women`s golf team has a great class coming in and this young lady may become the best player to come through the program. Look for them to get back in the rankings early in the fall.

Amy had rounds of 78-74 at Shady Oaks Country Club and just missed the Women`s U.S Open by two shots. Not too bad, beat a lot of pros.
