Volleyball Registers Huge Win Over Baylor
Caitlin Adair's 15 kills leads the Mustangs to a major victory in five sets over the Bears

WACO, Texas --- The SMU volleyball team earned a huge win over Baylor in five sets (15-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 15-6) on Saturday afternoon in the Holiday Inn & Suites Baylor Classic at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.
SMU head coach Lisa Seifert received stellar play in the win from a variety of contributors. Caitlin Adair led the Mustangs (2-0) with a career-high 15 kills and a .412 attack percentage. Dana Powell for the second-straight match tallied a double-double with 15 digs and 14 kills. Setter Kelli Becerra led the match with 52 assists while also chipping in 16 digs. Libero Sidney Stewart tied a career high with 29 digs. Senior Kathryn Wilkerson narrowly missed her second-straight double-double with nine kills and 16 digs.
The Bears (1-1), who began the season just two spots outside the AVCA Top 25 Poll, took the first set, 25-15. Behind Becerra's 16 assists and five kills each from Adair and Jessica Oliver in the set, the Mustangs tied the match up by winning the second set, 25-23. In a back-and-forth third set, Baylor prevailed narrowly, 25-23. SMU responded by tying the match and taking the fourth set, 25-22.
With the score tied, 2-2, the match headed to the fifth and deciding set. With the match on the line, SMU handedly controlled the set, winning 15-6. The Mustangs never trailed during the set and scored the final six straight points to earn the victory.
The win is the first in SMU's program history at Baylor. Baylor is the first of eight teams SMU will face in 2010 that participated in the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
The undefeated Mustangs will look to sweep the Baylor Classic when they face Stephen F. Austin (1-1) later today at 5 p.m.
