DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's soccer team defeated St. Louis University 2-1 Friday night at Westcott Field. Freshmen Amanda Burgardt and Shelby Redman each scored their first career goals en route to the SMU victory.
"I felt like we got a good performance tonight from a lot of the players," said head coach Brent Erwin. "I'm glad to see Amanda and Shelby get their first goals; I think it's important to get your first goals for a team."
Burgardt got the Mustangs on the board in the 13th minute on a cross from fellow freshman Jessica Bartol. Redman netted the eventual game-winner in the 51st minute on a shot from 10 yards out.
Goalkeeper Courtney Webb picked up her second win of the season, stopping three shots on goal. Webb now holds a 0.71 goals-against average on the season.
The Mustangs recorded a season-high 24 shots on the night, while holding the Billikens to just seven.
