New Mexico Posts 3-1 Win Over Mustangs

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The SMU volleyball team lost to host New Mexico, 3-1, in the Lobo Comcast Challenge on Friday night at the Johnson Center.
Both SMU outside hitters Dana Powell and Kathryn Wilkerson collected double-digit kills and digs in the match. Powell, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., gathered 14 digs and 11 kills in her sixth double-double of the season. Wilkerson led the Mustangs in kills with 13 and tallied 13 digs to total her fifth double-double this year.
SMU won the first set, 25-23, but proceeded to drop the next three sets to the Lobos (4-4). Plaguing the Ponies was a team season-low .144 attack percentage, while yielding a .253 percentage from New Mexico.
Earlier in the day, the Mustangs defeated UC Santa Barbara, 3-1, in the opening match of the Lobo Comcast Challenge. With tonight's loss, the Mustangs record is now 6-2 this season and 1-1 during the two-day tournament. The Mustangs finish up play tomorrow at 1 p.m. (CT) against Sacramento State, who is 0-2 so far in Albuquerque.
