HOUSTON (SMU) - Two school records were broken and SMU won in two events as the Mustangs placed second at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships. The finish matched SMU's best result in a C-USA Outdoor Championship, equaling their finish from 2011.
SMU led by one point after 12 total events, 60-59, over nationally-ranked UCF. The Mustangs were paced on Sunday by the efforts of Lucija Cvitanovic and Helena Perez, who each took first in their events. Perez won in shot put, recording a personal-best distance of 16.60 meters, which is fourth all-time at SMU. Cvitanovic utilized a personal-best mark in javelin, throwing for 49.21 meters.
Isis Wilson, Stephanie Kalu, Rachel Scruggs and Craishia Washington combined to set SMU records in both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. The foursome placed second in the 4x100, crossing the line in 44.67. The group was fourth in the 4x400, finishing in 3:40.47.
