Murphy Advances To NCAA Championships
Kalu Reaches 100M Semifinals

AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) - SMU's Elizabeth Murphy advanced to the NCAA Championships by taking eighth in the hammer throw with a toss of 62.32m on day one of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field West Preliminary Rounds at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Thursday, May 23.
Murphy, who also won the event at the C-USA Outdoor Championships, will now participate in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon.
Sprinter Stephanie Kalu also ran well on opening night, posting a time of 11.33 seconds in the 100-meter dash and advancing to the event semifinals on Friday night. Kalu ranked eighth on night one and the top 24 from tomorrow night's races will advance to Eugene.
Senior Mary Alenbratt just missed qualifying for the quarterfinals of 1,500m, finishing in 4:34.10, only 10 seconds out of the final spot. Freshman Karoline Skatteboe also came up just short in her bid to advance in the 10,000-meter run, crossing in 37:14.03.
Mustangs Rayann Chin and Lisa Egarter will compete in the discus and high jump, respectively, on Friday.
