Collins Named Conference Swimming and Diving Vice President
Head Coach Steve Collins Is In His 28th Year As The SMU Women's Swimming And Diving Head Coach

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/American) - SMU head women's swimming and diving coach Steve Collins has been elected as a sport officer for the American Athletic Conference. Collins will serve as the swimming and diving vice president for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.
The swimming and diving committee is made up of coaches from each of the conference's institutions, and the president and vice president were elected by those members.
"It is an honor to be elected as a sport official for swimming and diving," Collins said. "In my role as vice president, I will make recommendations for improvement within the sport."
Collins is currently in his 28th year at the program's helm and is a two-time NCAA Coach of the Year and 11-time conference Coach of the Year. His resume includes 15 top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including nine top five finishes. He has also mentored 575 All-Americans, 315 individual conference champions and 24 Olympians. His teams have won 15 conference championships in the past 17 seasons.
"I am extremely excited to start a new era of SMU swimming and diving in the American," Collins added. "We hope to continue our history of success and represent SMU in the new conference."
Collins and the Mustangs begin the 2013-14 season on Oct. 4 in Southlake, Texas, at the UNT Relays.
