Oct. 29, 2013

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (American/SMU) – The 2013 American Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship will be played at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, on Nov. 15 and 17. The semifinals are on Friday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. CT. The two semifinal winners will play in the finals on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT, with an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship on the line.

Should the Mustangs advance to the semifinals, they will play in the 7:30 p.m. match.

The inaugural championship will be held at an excellent venue, hosted at the home stadium of FC Dallas. SMU will be the host school as The American expands into a new market in North Texas. Opened in 2005, Toyota Stadium is a 145-acre multipurpose sports and entertainment facility located in Frisco, Texas. The combination of a world-class stadium and a sports park make Toyota Stadium one of the best and most unique soccer facilities in the world. Included in the facility is the 20,500 seat state-of-the-art pro soccer stadium and 17 tournament-sized fields.

Ticket packages start at $19 for a two-day pass with admission to all three games. Tickets for the inaugural American Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship are now on sale at www.ticketmaster.com.

The nine teams in the conference have made a total of 117 NCAA appearances, including three national championships won by UConn. The Huskies have made the most postseason appearances in the league at 33, followed by 29 appearances by the host Mustangs.

With the regular season entering its final week, Louisville has earned a share of The American regular season title, and will be the number one seed. The Cardinals lead The American with a 5-1-1 conference record. UConn, who is close behind with a 3-0-4 league record, and UCF, who is in third with a 3-1-3 league mark, will host opening round games along with Louisville and the fourth-place finisher.

There will be extensive coverage of this season's championship. The semifinals will be produced by The American Digital Network on TheAmerican.org, and the final will be streamed on ESPN3. Fans can also follow the championships online at TheAmerican.org on the Championship Central page.

SMU concludes its regular season in a senior day match with UConn. The Ponies and Huskies square off at Westcott Field on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT. Follow live stats and video for the match at SMUMustangs.com.
