Wow! I have a feeling I taught Kevin Hudson back in 2000. Of course my days as a graduate instructor were severely impacted by my nights as a bar back so I could be confusing him. Wasn't he on the team with Lucchi?

Yes there was overlap with Luchi and Kevin. I am pretty sure Luchi graduated with me in 2001.

Luchi lettered from 1998-2001.

Hudson lettered from 2000-2003.

Is it out of the realm of possibility for us to hire Schellas again?

At this point, I would think so, since we just hired a head coach.

Nothing against the guy but hasn't he only been coaching like 7 years? I guess that's not so important but we'll see.

redpony wrote:Treadway21, MustangBill, and DFFH- what are your opinions on this hire. I was really hoping that we would make a 'splash' hire with a top 15 level coach. My concern is that Kevin has been here as an assistant coach and our record over the last 5-7 years is abysmal.. This program has become an embarrassment since SH left.
I am asking your opinions since it is difficult to get much information from where I live. Of course I am hoping for the best but am disappointed in what seems to be another slap in the face to our non-rev programs by our a.d.

Red, I don't know him that well since he was many years younger than me, but I do know he is very well respected and liked among the SMU alumni players, and that includes myself. Since he played for SMU and Shellas, he is very aware of the history of SMU soccer and is very connected to it. I cannot think of too many guys that could come in that have his knowledge of the program. I think he will be able to use this to build back the program.

Also, Bill makes a very good point. He is not a guy that was an dead weight assistant. He is a commodity and had many career options. As you can see from the press release, he is very intelligent and organized, which I think will bode well for rebuilding the program. We seem to have gotten pretty darn good players, yet couldn't get them to perform as a group for extended periods during the season. That to me seems to have been Tim's shortfall. I am hopeful that Kevin can be the guy to mesh the recruiting and the on the field play.

That is a long winded way to say that I like the hire. I really am not sure who would be a splash hire that would be better than Kevin.

Fifty, Shellas is back in Dallas and enjoying retirement. I think he wants to coach again, but he won't take a job just to take a job. I imagine he will be very close with Kevin and helping him. He doesn't want to be too high profile and overshadow the program. He wants to keep some distance from SMU to be fair to whoever is coaching.

I had talked to Bill about this before, but we need to get group of the soccer ponyfans to meet up at a game - There will be some spring games that might be fun - or we could pick a fall game.

Hey Treadway21. question- since we are tending to normalize relations with Cuba do you know if I can now bring Cubanos into the country without a problem? IIRC I saw something that said I could bring them in but could not resell them. If that is correct I will bring a bunch this fall when I come to the U.S.

Schellas was named head coach at Grand Canyon yesterday. Brent Erwin is his assistant!

Great find Dan. He will do well there I am sure. They must have some money:

Mueller also announced that a new 2,800-seat stadium will be built in the heart of campus and will be ready for play for the 2015 soccer season. The grandstand, which will feature chair-back seats, will be covered by an awning and will stretch from goal line to goal line. The other three sides of the stadium will have grass berm seating, bringing the total capacity to 6,000. The new stadium will also be used for GCU rugby and lacrosse.

SMU would do well to have such a facility.

Red, I will find out about those cubans. I think you are right so will gladly light one up with you when you are in town.

They've got some kind of support too. Their home hoops game vs Harvard was televised I was amazed at the attendance. Their bball coach is Dan Majerle
