SMU Tops Cincinnati, 3-2

Mustangs Top Cincinnati, 3-2, to Win the Saint Louis Nike Classic Title
St. Louis, Mo. - The SMU men's soccer team outshot Cincinnati, 21-5, enroute to a 3-2 victory over the Bearcats Sunday afternoon in day two of the Saint Louis Nike Classic. With the win, SMU improves to 3-1 on the season while Cincinnati has yet to win a game this season (0-3). SMU also clinched the tournament title.
Cincinnati got on the scoreboard first at the 10:43 mark on a header by Matt Hayden off a corner kick. SMU answered 12 minutes later when sophomore transfer Alex Smith tallied his first SMU goal with a long shot into the net. The score remained, 1-1, at intermission.
In the second half, freshman Scott Corbin notched his first collegiate goal at the 52:09 mark with assists credited to Duke Hashimoto and Michael Uremovich. Cincinnati evened the score at 2-2 two minutes later on a goal by Wiremu Patrick. At the 73:07 mark, sophomore transfer Adrian Chevannes scored the game winner for the Mustangs with a shot from 12 yards out on the left side.
SMU freshman goalkeeper Steve Sandbo made his collegiate debut vs. the Bearcats.
