SMU Lacrosse

Postby Boston Pony » Tue Feb 15, 2005 7:52 pm

Looks like the guys won big this weekend over both Oklahoma State and Kansas. Just a side note that for years it was illegal to play lacrosse in Oklahoma. The assumption is that lacrosse being a native american sport was ban to discriminate against the original players of the sport. Glad to see the change. Looks like the team (ranked early on at #11 in Laxpower) is playing well.. Go Mustangs!

Thanks Boston. The two wins help as we face Baylor this weekend.

Lacrosse was a native American sport, and it was presumed (incorrectly)that it was really disguised warrior training so it was banned in Oklahoma.

My son plays for the team and it is "warrior " training. Great spectator sport. If you have never seen it, it is the fastest game on two feet.

Update:

The Mustangs beat Baylor last weekend in Waco 9 to 8. This coming weekend, they travel to Houston to play Texas Longhorns. The team is up for this one, their biggest regular season game of the year!

SMU Beats UT

Postby Boston Pony » Sun Feb 27, 2005 1:37 am

I saw on laxpower.com that SMU beat UT in overtime!!! I can't remember a win over Texas in any sport. When I played (the earth was still warm), we played close but never beat the Longhorns. Congrats to the Lacrosse Team!
