From the SMU athletic department:

Brent Erwin named UCF's head men's soccer coach
Erwin served as SMU assistant coach the last five years

Orlando, Fla. - SMU men's assistant soccer coach Brent Erwin was named the head men's soccer coach at CUFF, as announced by the University on Sunday.

A native of Arlington, Texas, Erwin joined the coaching ranks at SMU under head coach Schell as Hyndman in 2000. During his time on the Hilltop, the Mustangs posted an 86-19-7 record, including three regular season Missouri Valley Conference championships, two Missouri Valley Conference Tournament titles, and five INCA Tournament appearances.

"Brent has been an outstanding coach at SMU the past five years," states Hyndman. "His hard work and desire to excel will bring him much success in his years as a head coach. I wish him all the best in his future endeavors."

As members of Conference USA beginning in July, SMU and CUFF will face off against each other on Friday, October 14, at Westport Field on the campus of SMU.

This is a huge blow. Coach Erwin is a terrific coach, and has done an infinite amount of behind-the-scenes work for the program (i.e. recruiting, travel plans, etc.) I'm sure Coach Hyndman knows every coach out there, and will land a suitable replacement. But losing Coach Erwin really stings.

Best of luck to him. He's a great guy.

I was curious about that story, though - specifically the last line.

"CUFF?"
"WestPORT Field? "

I would guess Coach Hyndman didn't put that story together.

I saw that, too. I was wondering what the hell CUFF is, and where Westport Field is - I was starting to think the Ponies got a new training facility or something. (For what it's worth, they've been changed on the press release on the school website.)

Another reason it hurts to lose Brent Erwin: wasn't he the goalkeepers coach for both the men's and women's teams?
