Karin Van Rooyen, a star athlete of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, registered a good second place in the women’s 5 000m at the Midwest Region’s Number One division meeting in Norman, Oklahoma, with a time of 16:18.43. It was the third fastest by a South African this year.

Congrats to Karin. Unfortunately, she is the only athlete to qualify for the NCAA track meet this year. I guess dropping men's track must have sent ripples through the women's track circuit and it will take some time to repair that damage.
