Freddy A-does Ugo

In today's L.A. Galaxy/D.C. United game, the teams played a full 90 scoreless minutes. Then, in injury time, Freddy Adu collected a long lead pass and turned upfield. When he looked upfield, he stood face-to-face with former SMU defender Ugo Ihemelu .... who has had a sensational rookie year and already is one of the best defenders in Major League Soccer.

However, this wasn't Ihemelu's day. Adu went through a series of fakes and jukes and absolutely undressed Ihemelu, who stumbled, reached out to basically tackle Adu and fell to the ground. Adu then cranked a left-footed shot that defelected off a another L.A. defender and into the upper left corner of the net. Brilliant goal. Ihemelu will have better days, and many of them. He has a very long career in front of him.

Too bad Ugo's "Sports Center" debut was that one.

Not true -- Ugo made SportsCenter a few weeks ago clearing some dude (from Columbus, I think) out of the box and making a great clearance off the goal line. And it's no insult to get beat by Adu .... he'll do that to most of MLS before he's through playing.
