Knost, Ackerson Named C-USA Golfers Of the Week
Sept. 20, 2006
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU golfers Jennifer Ackerson and Colt Knost have been named Conference USA Golfers of the Week, the league announced today. It is the first weekly honor of the season for each.
Ackerson, an Allen, Texas, native, fired a final-round 68 to vault into a second-place tie individually and lead SMU to a team win in its season opener at the Jeannine McHaney Invitational in Lubbock, Texas. Ackerson carded a 5-under 211 (70-73-68) on the par-72 course as the Mustangs beat their nearest competition by three strokes. It is the second honor of her career, as Ackerson claimed WAC Golfer of the Week accolades in 2004-05.
Knost, a Pilot Point, Texas, native, tied for medalist honors for the second straight tournament this season, carding a 2-under-par 214 at the talent-laden Gopher Invitational. Despite windy and cold conditions in Minnesota, the senior made up a shot on the final hole of the tournament to earn honors. Knost also carded the tournament's low round with a 67 in round two as the Mustangs placed third in the 12-team field.
