St. Louis, Mo. - The third-ranked SMU men's soccer team continued its winning ways with a 3-0 victory over #20 Saint Louis Friday evening in St. Louis. The win was SMU's ninth of the season (9-0-1) and eighth shutout of the year. The Billikens fall to 3-3-1 on the season. The game was delayed one hour due to rain.
In the first half, SMU scored two goals in a span of four minutes. Mustang senior Jay Needham posted his second goal of the season at the 25:26 mark with a 15-yard shot after a scramble. Four minutes later, sophomore Jeff Harwell collected his first goal of the season with a 12-yard shot after SLU failed to clear the ball in the box. SMU rounded out the scoring for the evening at the 73:49 mark when senior Mynor Gonzalez connected on a 20-yard blast.
Mustang goalkeeper Matt Wideman made three saves on the night and recorded his seventh shutout of the season.
SMU takes on UMKC (0-7-1) Sunday afternoon in Kansas City. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
