What a solid team. Much better than the #1 team a few years back. I thought they were a bit overrated. This team seems to be the real deal.

Very good performance by SMU. GK Wideman was involved in a hard collision early in the second half but kept playing. Tough kid.

That wasn't one of those collisions where someone blinks at a goalie and gets a yellow card. They nailed each other. Kentucky is a pretty good team, and still had no business being on the same field with SMU. (Got to like the kid who got the red card for Kentucky -- he just got off the bench, and got tossed in less than a minute. I wonder if he even needs to shower after a game like that?)
Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!

Smoo:
This is a sincere question from a soccer idiot. You have listed the number of offsides in your stats. Is that relative to the game in any way? If there is a tie game does the number of offsides have any bearing on anything? I can understand the interest in every other stat but not that one. We do not list the number of offsides in American football separately. Again, this is a legitimate question. I am one that can not get enough stats so I appreciate them but just wondering if there is any sgnificance in the offsides. Thanks.

Honestly, the number of offsides and corner kicks means very little, but could have a slight impact on the rankings. Each is an indication of whether a team is playing aggressive soccer, trying to push forward and score. For instance, if the box score of a game shows that a team had no corners and no offsides violations, that's a pretty good indication that the team involved was content to simply pack the entire team in front of its own net and play for the tie.
So, if that team is ranked in the same range as another team that plays a tie game against a similar opponent, but the second team has 10 corner kicks and 14 offsides violations. Voters could use that statistic to determine that the second team is more aggressively trying to win, and therefore might sway a vote or two in the polls.
Othherwise, it means damn little.
