IRVING (C-USA/SMU) - SMU golfer Jennifer Ackerson has been named
Conference USA Golfer of the Week, the league announced today.
Ackerson, an Allen, Texas, native, went 2-0 in her head-to-head matches at the prestigious Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship for Women at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., this week. In SMU's match against fourth-seeded Vanderbilt, Ackerson defeated Kristen Svicarovich, 5 and 4, and returned in the afternoon match with fifth-seeded Wake Forest to better Jean Chua, 1-up. She was the only SMU player to win two matches in the event.
It is the third honor of her career, as Ackerson was C-USA GOW earlier this season and claimed WAC Golfer of the Week accolades once in 2004-05. It is the fourth time an SMU women's golfer has been recognized in 2006 as Lacey Jones has also won twice this season.
SMU will return to the links February 19-20 at the Central District
Tournament in Parrish, Fla.
