Kate Ackerson Named C-USA Golfer Of The Week

Sophomore Earns First Career Honor

Feb. 21, 2007

IRVING (C-USA/SMU) - SMU sophomore Kate Ackerson has earned her first Conference USA Golfer of the Week honor, the league announced today. The honor comes on the heels of the Allen, Texas, native's fifth-place finish at the Central District Invitational.

Ackerson carded rounds of 71, 74 and 75 to finish at 4-over 220 at the par-72, 6,099-yard River Wilderness Golf Club in Parrish, Fla. The second round was especially exciting as she sank her first career hole-in-one, acing the 138-yard seventh hole.

This is Ackerson's first Golfer of the Week award, but it is the fourth honor for her family, as her older sister, SMU senior Jennifer Ackerson was C-USA GOW two times earlier this season and claimed WAC Golfer of the Week accolades once in 2004-05. This also marks the fifth time an SMU women's golfer has been recognized in 2006-07 as junior Lacey Jones has also won twice this season.

SMU returns to the links March 5 at the UCF Challenge in Orlando.
