Mustang Women Off to a Strong Start at Missouri Grand Prix
Three Mustangs Make B Finals To Be Held Saturday Morning

COLUMBIA, Mo. (SMU)--The SMU women's swimming team had a strong showing during the first day's prelims at the Missouri Grand Prix. Three of the five current Mustangs who competed on day one made the B Finals in their respective events, to be held Saturday morning.

Four Mustangs swam in the 100 LC meter free event. Angela San Juan Cisneros, Petra Klosova, Sascha Van den Branden and Elzanne Werth each took to the water, along with former Mustang Michelle Vlasakova. Klosova and Van Den Branden each qualified for the B Final, with Klosova finishing in 57.32 and Van den Branden touching in at 57.23. San Juan Cisneros completed the course in 57.79, good enough for an alternate spot. Vlasakova came in at 55th overall.

In the 200 LC meter fly, Justine Clark was the sole SMU swimmer. She swam the event in 2:17.58, qualifying her for the B Final to be held Saturday morning.

In addition to the final heats, the Mustangs will compete in prelim heats Saturday evening. Van den Branden will kick it off for SMU in the 200 free prelims, followed by San Juan Cisneros, Klosova, Clark and Werth in the 50 free. Vlasakova will also swim the 50 free, as will assistant coach Dominique Diezi.

Women complete weekend on a good note:

COLUMBIA, Mo. (SMU)--The No. 14 SMU women's swimming team wrapped up the Missouri Grand Prix by taking two top-10 finishes in the finals held Monday morning.

Freshman Elzanne Werth picked up 10th place overall in the final of the 100 LC meter butterfly, touching in at 1:00.61, over a second faster than her prelim time Sunday. Teammate Angela San Juan Cisneros finished just behind her in 11th place, clocking a time of 1:01.79. Justine Clark stopped the clock at 1:04.06, good for 23rd place.

In the 100 LC meter back final, Petra Klosova wrapped up her exceptional weekend by placing ninth in a time of 1:02.98, over a half a second faster than her prelim time on Sunday.

Former Mustang Michelle Vlasakova completed the 200 IM LC meter final in 2:25.88, putting her in 20th place overall.
