Freshman Earns First Track Honor

IRVING (C-USA/SMU) - SMU's Silje Fjortoft has been named the Conference USA Athlete of the Week after clocking the top time in the nation this season in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:59.01) at the Stanford Invitational. The freshman from Orsta, Norway was the top collegiate finisher by over nine seconds and easily qualified for the NCAA Regionals.
The track award is the first for Fjortoft, who was named the NCAA South Central Region Athlete of the Year and C-USA Freshman and Newcomer of the Year during the cross country season.
The SMU track & field team will next travel to Oklahoma for a meet, April 11-12.
