This weekend, a group of Mustangs young and old will be participating in the 22nd running of the Lakefest Regatta on Lake Texoma. This event, which raises in the neighborhood of $100,000 for charity annually, will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society this year. The race will feature approximately 60 sailboats from exotic racing machines to comfortable cruisers anywhere from 24 feet to 45 feet long.
Several current members of the SMU Sailing Club will be racing with Ft. Worth-based Mauri Pro Sailing aboard Nazca Lines, a lightning fast Henderson 30 that's the defending Class 1 champion from '07.
Former Sailing Club member and defending Class 5 champion Jack Montani ('96) will be at the helm of his Catalina 36 Solstice with the help of alumnus Dan Reyna (graduated sometime in late '90s – depending on whether you believe him or his transcript).
Team Second Star will try to keep their unbeaten streak alive even though they'll be moving up to Class 3 for this year's event. Second Star's Mustang sailors include former SMU Sailing Club member J.D. ('89) and Susan Hill ('90) and Thomas Morris ('92).
One of the fundraising components of Lakefest is the Regatta Party to be held this Saturday night (invite below). Tickets are $15 at the door. Free beer for those over 21 (remember, you're drinking for a good cause). All Mustangs welcome.
If you'd like to come out and watch (should be a beautiful weekend), you can get more details at http://www.texomasailing.org or PM me prior to Thursday morning.
