April 16, 2008

EL PASO, Texas (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team posted a final-round 314 and moved up one spot to finish third at the 2008 Conference USA Championships at the par 72, 6,294-yard Butterfield Trail Golf Club on Wednesday, April 16, carding a three-round total of 932.

Lacey Jones and Paige Martin both posted top-10 finishes, with Jones taking sixth at 229 and Martin tying for seventh at 230. Tia Gannon's 235 saw her finish tied for 14th, while Laura Cross' and Sarah Dodson's final round 84s saw them slip to 23rd and 29th, respectively.

"I'm very proud of them for grinding it out and doing the best they could in that 50-mile-per-hour wind," said Head Coach Todd Selders. "The last hole kind of hurt us, but it did everyone else, too."

"I think we really have something to look forward to next year now that our underclassmen know what to expect. In the last four years we have finished third, third, second, and third again, so it is time to step it up and win a conference championship."
