I believe Jimmy Benedek is still around in the Dallas area although I have not seen or talked to him in years. A former U.S. natinoal team and Dallas Tornado star, he took SMU from a club team to a NCAA Div 1 team back in 1974. He did very well during his tenure at SMU giving up the reins to SH in 1984. He was the right person at the time for SMU and provided a solid foundation for SH.

Yes, Jimmy is still in Dallas, and unfortunately has cancer. He was at the alumni game 2 years ago and looked well. We were lucky to have him and he did build a great program which Shellas continued. I played for Jimmy and had a great time. I would not have been at SMU if not for Jimmy and for that I will be eternally grateful. Thanks Fordtotolbert and Mustangbill for recognizing Jimmy's contribution to SMU.

Sounds like he had a better fate than Peruna I on that one.

Those were the days...Randy Phillips, Said Bogverdoni (sp?), Jeff Coleman, Davey Williamson, Jet Leonard, Toby Grove, Mungolli, Dan Irvin, Pittman, Easterling...great teams, great players.

Club and smu soccer. His parents were good friends although I have not seen them in years.

Did you play at SMU and what club team did you play for? I haven't seen Teddy in years either. Last I heard he was in Florida. It sure is nice to know there is still folks around that know and were involved with the soccer team from that era.

Oh and by the way for anyone still reading this tread, when Jimmy got hit by the car on Mockingbird, he broke both legs very badly and had very nasty scars from the accident. It didn't keep him from getting out there and playing with us during scrimmages every now and again. He could still play.

I was a good friend of Ted, sr. and coached some with him. Also played and coached at the adult level. I have closely followed smu athletics since the mid 60's. A good friend of mine was a keeper for the smu club team before Jimmy B. I knew quite a few of the Tornado players socially but that is old history.
