Kraft Receives British Amateur Invite
Sophomore Earns Honor With JPNI Win

Jan. 14, 2009

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU sophomore Kelly Kraft has been extended an invitation to play in the prestigious 2009 British Amateur, June 15-19, based on his win at the Jerry Pate Invitational last October.

The event, which will be played at the Formby and West Lancashire Golf Clubs, involves 288 players, each of whom will play two rounds of 18 holes, one to be played on each of the two courses. The 64 lowest scores over the first 36 holes and ties for 64th place will compete in the match play stage of the Championship, which will commence on Wed., June 17, over Formby. Each match will consist of one round of 18 holes, except the Final which will be over 36 holes.

Kraft carded a final-round 69 to finish at 6-under 204 and claim medalist honors at the JPNI at Old Overton Club in mid-October. He entered the day tied for third and mounted a strong final push to finish at 1-under on the day and claim the win.

I played Formby in 2003...windy day, tough , tough course. Joes Maria Olazabal defeated Colin Montgomerie there in Brit Am many moons ago. Maybe young Kraft will be our next "big thing", following in the footsteps of Payne and Colt. Wishing him nothing but success...and, bring your "A Game" son....long live Lamar Haynes.

Great to see Kelly get that prestigous invite.
Good luck the SMU men's and women's teams this Spring!
Its time for them both to step up and make it to the NCAA tournament.
