SMU's Bubien Named C-USA Women's Tennis Player of the Week

Bubien helped the No. 75 Mustangs (11-2) to a 3-1 record over the weekend, including a 7-0 win against Conference USA opponent Memphis. The senior also claimed a singles victory over No. 122 Monika Hadvigerova of UT-Arlington. In other singles competition this past weekend at the No. 1 spot, Bubien defeated Memphis’ Marjorie Ondeck in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) followed by a victory over Missouri’s Mallory Weber (6-0, 6-4). Bubien has won three consecutive singles matches and is undefeated (3-0) in C-USA play thus far. In doubles competition, Bubien and partner Pavi Francis combined for a 3-1 weekend at the No. 1 line. The tandem took down Ashley Murdock and Sarah Irvin of Memphis in an 8-4 win, and cruised past SFA’s Roxana Enica and Alina Shazkho, 8-3. The last pair to fall against Bubien and Francis was UTA’s Nicola Matovicova and Klara Jagosova (8-5). Bubien is currently 8-1 at the top singles spot and 9-2 in doubles also at No. 1. This is the first weekly honor for Bubien in 2009 and the third of her career. She is the second consecutive Mustang to claim the league's weekly honor.
