SMU Earns No. 1 Seed, Bye in the First Round [/b]

DALLAS (SMU)-SMU women's tennis (24-2) will have the chance to compete for the Conference USA Championship title starting Friday, April 17 when they head to Houston, Texas and Jake Hess Stadium at Rice to compete in the conference tournament.
With a regular season C-USA record of 4-0, the Mustangs earned the No. 1 seed which granted SMU a bye in the first round held on Thursday. SMU will face the winner between No. 8 UTEP and No. 9 Memphis on Friday at 10:00 a.m. The Mustangs blanked (7-0) Memphis the last time out on Feb. 13, and did not face UTEP.
"We are excited about going back to Houston and going after this championship. Our perseverance, focus, and grit throughout the regular season culminated in a No. 1 seed, but we know that the conference is much stronger this year and we have to show up for every match. We only have a couple more days of preparation, but we are ready and eager to bring home a conference championship to SMU," said head coach Lauren Longbotham-Meisner.
The semifinals will be played on Saturday at 12:00 p.m., and the championship match will take place on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
