Aug. 11, 2009
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - SMU women's soccer kicked off their exhibition season with a 3-2 win over Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday, August 11, 2009. Kristin Medeiros scored twice and Lesile Briggs added the other tally as the Mustangs held on to beat the Ladyjacks.
Kristin Medeiros opened the scoring in the second of three periods by putting in a cross from the right side to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. Leslie Briggs added the second goal off of a breakaway during the second period, and doubled the Mustangs' lead. Medeiros' second goal gave the Mustangs a 3-0 lead, as she put her own rebound into the net after receiving a cross from Leslie Briggs.
"Obviously it was a good first outing of the exhibition season. We're always happy to score three goals, and get a win, even in the exhibition season, you want to win them all," said head coach Brent Erwin. "It was hot and humid, and everyone played a 30-minute period without subbing. It was good physical work and shows us a good framework for what training and the regular season are going to be."
SMU will open their regular season on August 21 when they travel to Oral Roberts.
