IRVING, Texas (C-USA) - Paulo da Silva and Leone Cruz were named to the pre-season all-Conference USA team as voted on by the league's men's soccer coaches. da Silva also was named a preseason All-American by CollegeSoccerNews.com
SMU placed multiple selections on the preseason all-conference squad as senior forward Paulo da Silva and junior Leone Cruz represent the Mustangs on the list. Da Silva led SMU with seven goals, while playing in 12 games. Cruz was a stalwart on the Mustang defense, playing in all 16 games and he added three goals.
SMU will start their 2009 men's soccer campaign on Sept. 4 in the Tulsa Tournament against #3 Akron. The top four Conference USA teams at the conclusion of the regular season earn a spot in the 2009 Conference USA Championship November 13-16 hosted by the regular season champion.
