Kenzie Scovill hits game-winner as Mustangs win 1-0

Sept. 4, 2009

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU earned 1-0 win over North Texas with an energetic crowd of 709 people on hand at Westcott Field for the Mustangs' home opener. Kenzie Scovill, a Lewisville, Texas native, put in a tenth minute strike, which was the first goal of her career, and the game winner.

"Sometimes getting the first win out of the way is the most important thing you have to do," said SMU head coach Brent Erwin. "For us to get an early goal, then to win, is very important to the team."

Courtney Webb posted her first shutout of the season, and the second of her career, with a four-save performance. Logan May added four shots, and Leslie Briggs added three more, but Scovill's strike was the only shot that found the back of the net.

The Mustangs have the rest of the weekend off, and travel to Moraga, Calif. for the Saint Mary's Tournament next weekend. SMU faces off against hosts Saint Mary's on Sept. 11, and will play California on Sept. 13. The Mustangs return to Westcott Field on Sept. 20 to face No. 3 Portland.
