SMU's Kraft Ranked No. 1 In Nation
Mustang Team 12th
Sept. 23, 2009
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU junior Kelly Kraft is the nation's No. 1-ranked college golfer according to the GolfWeek/Sagarin Performance Index released this week. As a team, SMU ranked 12th and Mustang sophomore Marc Sambol ranked 126th as an individual.
SMU picked up its second straight win this season at the 16th annual Adams Cup on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Trailing New Mexico by two shots heading into the final 18 at the Newport National Golf Club, the SMU men shot a combined 291 in the final round, tying for the day's low round, to pass the Lobos and post a six-stroke victory. The Mustangs had three golfers place in the top 10 individually, led by Kraft, the C-USA Golfer of the Week, who finished third after taking medalist honors the previous week.
Jeff Sagarin's rating system is based on a mathematical formula that uses a player's won-lost-tied record against other players when they play on the same course on the same day, and the stroke differential between those players, then links all players to one another based on common opponents.
