Lesniak Is No. 9 Seed In Singles, Lesniak/Malyarchikova Are No. 3 Seed In Doubles

LOS ANGELES (SMU) --- Marta Lesniak and Aleksandra Malyarchikova will represent the SMU Women's Tennis team in the Riviera Women's All-American Tennis Championships in Los Angeles beginning Tuesday.

Lesniak, ranked No. 39 nationally, is the No. 9 seed in singles for the tournament. In doubles, Lesniak and Malyarchikova enter as the No. 3 seed with a No. 13 national ranking.

Lesniak (1-1) begins the 64-person singles tournament on Tuesday against No. 64 Monica Arguello of Furman. A win would mean a second-round matchup with No. 61 Courtney McLane of Alabama or No. 59 Anouk Tigu of Arkansas. Only the top 16 of the 64 players are seeded.

The 32-team doubles draw puts the No. 3 seed Lesniak and Malyarchikova (2-1) against Florida's Lauren Embree and Allie Will. If advancing, the Mustangs would face a second-round matchup with No. 27 Amanda Craddock and Krista Damico of Texas or No. 41 Michelle Murphy and Sofia Novak of UC Santa Barbara.

Marta and Sasha played well in doubles, but they fell to the team from Miami. They jumped out to a 4-2 lead, but apparently couldn't get some tight line calls and couldn't put balls away and they lost, 8-6.

In singles, Marta played VERY well in both matches. She handled the girl from Furman in the afternoon and also took out the Arkansas girl in straight sets tonight, 7-5, 6-3.

Her third round match time is still TBD tomorrow, but I'll try to get it posted on here when it is known.

Update from All American; Doubles beats UCSB 8-4, Marta Lesniak downs USF 6-3, 6-2 to advance to 4th rd./main draw!

Marta & Sasha down ODU 8-3 in doubles....2 doubles wins and 1 singles win, GREAT day for the MUSTANGS!!!

In singles, I'm not sure where Marta is going to be slotted in to the main draw as of right now. Now that she has advanced to the main draw, she is one of the top-32 players left playing in the coutnry. Check the link at the bottom for more info.

Marta and Sasha defeated Dobrawalska/Fahoum from Old Dominion and they now move on to the consolation doubles final.
